“You…”

He appeared from the void itself, that man, that irritant man, wearing the annoying blue tuxedo. Suddenly stranded it the dark void, John found himself very angry. The top of the Citadel, the city of Magellan, even Alyx, had all disappeared. And that man, the annoying man, was the answer. He always was.

“How much fury… Surely you do not want to concern with something that it’s not anymore of your… scope.” John clenched his teeth. He simply couldn’t stand that man. His arrogance, his omnipotence, has if he could control and know almost everything! And that raspy, stressed, way of talking, has if he was unable to talk as a normal person. “Finally the opportunity has come to pass… for us to get along. Many desired your presence for some time now. Possibly some contracts. You have called a great deal of attention to yourself with your deeds on the colonies. Maybe…”

Suddenly something happened that John never expected to witness. That man, that all-powerful man, was interrupted! Like spectral silhouettes, coming from the all-encircling void, several Digimon surrounded his perpetually calm figure, singing chants from some other era. He looked around, as if impressed.

“We shall see… about that.”

And then John fell into unconsciousness.

I admit that, sometimes, the results tended to be exceptionally bizarre. I do remember our space opera universe, were we did crossed things like Starcraft, Trigun, Metroid, Quake 2, only to mention some, and then we added something ours. We really admired the result, even if the majority of the people around us tended to deem it… strange.

As we were growing older, our creative outburst diminished, and I see that we are becoming too attached to our passed creations, and rarely do anything new. I, for once, try to make something from my own mind, departing from that old recycling of somebody else work. My vein of amateur writer wouldn’t permit anything less.

Unfortunely, I wasn’t able to write for sometime, as I had to work for months, in a fast-food diner. The job didn’t permit any kind of imaginative drift, and I still can’t write straight because of that hiatus. Anyway, I do like to write and, one day, I become possessed by an overpowering need. I had passed the weekend playing Half-Life 2: Episode One, and I found myself remembering one of the universes I created with my brother, a Half-Life, Pokémon and Digimon cross-over. Yeah, you’re really reading this, we did mixed all of that together! The result was very… interesting, and much grimmer that you might imagine. But since our demeanour with the original Half-Life 2, some years ago, we didn’t touch that universe again… In my case, until that day. I suddenly found myself with the need to write something based on that universe, the one we called Monster Wars, due to a huge war between the Digimon and the inhabitants of Earth, Pokémon and Human. The war’s result led to a peace between the factions, and the start of the Human colonization of the Digiworld. City 17 became the first colony, Magellan, and the Combine an organization of religious zealot Digimon, hellbent in controlling the Digiworld and turning the Human in Digimon. And thus started Monster Wars 2, parallel to Half-Life 2.

I ended up writing a simple draft of what would the adaptation of Episode One to the Monster Wars universe. I thought the result to be really interesting. Unfortunely for me (on the imaginative perspective), it was my best work in years!

With fifty pages of text that I could never publish due to copyright issues, I found me thinking in what to do with the material. So I’ve decided to post it on the web, in this blog. It is more to make it worth the effort, but I hope someone will think it entertaining.

I am expecting to post a chapter each two weeks, the English version along with the Portuguese. I need that much time because of the translation issues, English not being my native language. I hope to use this to train, and some feedback with advises and opinions would be really welcome. I hope to, somewhere in the future, post a timeline of events, to help explaining the story.

Unfortunely, the result will be only a small parcel of the story as a whole, without much of event contextualization or character development, going directly to the action, assuming a prior knowledge of the Half-Life 2 universe. Maybe later I will dedicate to tell the story as it should be.
